JOB SUMMARY

MAA is seeking a part time employee to be based primarily at St Elmo Airport (subject to change as needed), who under direct supervision of the Airfield Supervisor, will perform maintenance of airport runways, taxiways, lighting systems, and grounds. To perform daily fuel tank inspections and inspections on the Airport Operations Area (AOA) in accordance with FAR Part 139. Act as a liaison between MAA and St Elmo tenants.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for maintenance and repair of runways, taxiways, grounds, airfield lighting systems, runway & taxiway markings, pavement surfaces, joint repairs, repairing and clearing fence lines, and wildlife management. Maintenance includes but is not limited to mowing, weed eating, grading, filling ruts and painting. Operate equipment such as mowers, diesel-powered tractors with attachments, small tractors, riding mowers and other powered landscaping equipment.  Maintain preventive maintenance records and logs for inspections.  Operate sweepers, backpack blowers, power washers, vacuums and other equipment including the use of all appropriate safety equipment.  Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of runway lighting system and associated controls.

Regular routine attendance at work is required. Must be willing to work in a shift capacity that may rotate or adjust with little notice including weekends and holidays.  Must be able to meet and maintain Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements authorizing unescorted access entry to Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).  Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Knowledge of operations, services and activities of grounds and maintenance programs. Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in maintenance and repair activities.  

Ability to lift 100 pounds and effectively manipulate hand tools. Legibly and accurately record information on various report forms.

Must be able to communicate clearly using a two-way radio system.  Ability to learn to read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, wire diagrams and schematics. Ability to learn basic electrical/electronic operating principles pertaining to airfield lighting systems.  Establish and maintain effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to work with little to no supervision. Familiarity operating computers and other office equipment such as printers, copiers, and calculators.

Education/Experience/Training

High School diploma or GED is required. Experience in airfield maintenance or grounds maintenance desired.   Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable.

Physical Requirements

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties, which may include the following:

  • walking, crouching, crawling, kneeling, or climbing
  • moving tools and equipment
  • operating tools and equipment
  • lifting heavy objects

Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed to:

  • operate assigned vehicle and equipment to include radios
  • read and interpret sketches, diagrams and blueprints
  • reading and writing

Perform work under extreme temperatures and during adverse weather conditions.  Effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to high electrical voltage, working around light and heavy machinery and exposure to the noise of a flight line environment.
