A N N O U N C E M E N T

AN OPENING EXISTS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION AT THE MOBILE AIRPORT AUTHORITY.

AIRPORT OPERATIONS SPECIALIST

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:    High School diploma or GED is required. Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Airport or Aviation/Aerospace Management, Aviation/Aerospace Science, Business or Public Administration, or closely related field highly desirable.  A minimum of 2 to 4 years’ experience in Aviation, Airports, FBO, Airlines or associated military experience is required.  Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable.  Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to learn and understand FAR Part 139, TSR Part 1542 and all other federal, state, and local rules, regulations, standards, and requirements governing air traffic, commercial and general aviation, airport safety and security, airport and movement area operating, and maintenance standards and other relevant matters as directed. Ability to learn and understand the practices and principles of airport administration, operations, security, and airfield maintenance.  Possess knowledge of building, grounds, and airfield inspection practices and principles.    

Ensure compliance with and enforce federal, state, and local safety and security regulations pertaining to airport operations. Respond to aircraft accident/incident and other emergency situations that occur on airport property; Issue appropriate notices to airmen (NOTAMS) when hazards exist and initiate closure of all or parts of the airport, if necessary.  Perform airside inspections in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements.  Periodically inspect airport facilities, including runways, taxiways, ramps, perimeter barriers and buildings, record discrepancies and arrange for corrective action.  Review, update, and enforce 14 CFR Part 139 requirements as outlined in the Airport Certification Manual and Airport Emergency Plan.  Review and assist with updates to the Airport Emergency Plan and Airport Certification Manual.
